Daniel Boerman always dreamed of flying—of rising above his humble beginnings on a farm in the small Dutch Reformed community of Oakland, Michigan. In his memoir he recounts life from his birth through high school graduation and stops at many places along the way to reminisce about growing up in a simpler world with his parents and his two sisters. Stops include tales about farm life, schooling, church, and various growing pains along the way.
Dan has a unique mind for remembering the details of growing up. Through his colorful word pictures and descriptions I have lived with Dan from childhood until high school graduation. Dan has allowed me to go with him to his farm, school and church. He has helped me reflect on God's care and guidance during those developmental years in my own life. Excellent book.

Daniel's Memoir was a very enjoyable journey for me to be part of as I looked in upon his life to glimpse a child and young man's discovery of the world around him. Daniel's style of writing provided an immediate sense of warmth and intimacy, making it easy to imagine what it was like to experience the events and encounters of his young life.
