No Gossip Policy

The only "gossip" allowed at WinePress Publishing is talk about our "No Gossip" policy. To remind us how to behave ourselves in Christ, and to help prevent us from eating the choice morsel of gossip, WinePress created this unique portable placemat.

Each WinePress employee signs an agreement stating that he or she will only discuss our authors and partners in a constructive manner—whether inside or outside the office—and personal information is limited to those closely related to a project.

There are several reasons for this policy.

1. It's natural for us to complain about life, but we're all called in the Lord to rejoice always and give thanks in all circumstances (1 Thessalonians 5:18). The "No Gossip" policy helps encourage an uplifting atmosphere.

2. Bringing a quality book to completion is a labor-intensive—and potentially stressful—process. At WinePress we don't just print books, we partner with our authors in making their books shine. Most people do not realize just how many details go into professional custom publishing. However, to draw a parallel with the food industry, WinePress is like a gourmet restaurant rather than a fast food drive-in. There are many places one can get quick service, but the old saying, "You get what you pay for," is really true—not just at restaurants, but in publishing as well. Unlike a fast food place that advertises how many billions have been fed, we care about the quality rather than the quantity. Like any high-class product, it takes a great deal of time and real skill to smooth over the difficulties and make it look easy. Therefore, our "No Gossip" policy guards the interactions, struggles, and joys between authors, printers, and WinePress staff.

Every department at WinePress has one goal in mind—to serve. Therefore, our conversations always have a positive point to them. If someone were to listen in on a conversation at WinePress, he would only hear wholesome talk that builds others up according to their needs. We know and understand fully that a book is an outpouring of the author's heart, and we jealously protect it.

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (Ephesians 4:29)

May we all joyfully commit ourselves to this wholesome dining. The portable "No Gossip" placemat is a great way to remind ourselves to examine what we eat: the choice morsels of gossip or the rich food of God's love.
